Georgy Artemoff

Artemoff was a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, and stage designer. He came from the family of a military doctor and studied at the Emperor Alexander III Cadet Corps in Novocherkassk (1899-1905), in the Drawing Classes in Rostov-on-Don (1907-1908) with A.S. Chinonov. In 1910, came to Moscow and became close with the artist S.N. Pimenov. He attended classes at the studio of Konstantin Korovin at the MUZhVZ (1910-1913).

In 1913 he arrived in Paris, where he became acquainted with Zadkin, Modigliani, and other artists of the Parisian elite. He was a member of the Union of Russian Artists in France and the Association of Artists-Animalists. Beginning in 1927, he exhibited at the Salon of Painters and Decorators (member of the Salon since 1928). In 1930 he had a joint exhibition with his wife in the gallery R Zivy. He was awarded the Silver Medal of the French Society of Artists (1927), the Gold Medal of the Salon des Arts Décoratifs (1928), and the Universal Exhibition in Paris (1937). He had a solo exhibition at the Chappe Lautier Gallery in Toulouse.
Between 1946 and 1958, he had about twenty solo exhibitions in Nice, Carcassonne, Cannes, Montpellier, Toulouse, and Paris. Posthumous and retrospective exhibitions were held in Carcassonne (1968), Toulouse (1975, 1992), in the artist's studio in Revel (1980), Castres (1990), and Bonifacio (1992).
Works are in many museum collections, including the National Museum of Modern Art and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
