Pyotr Konchalovsky

Painter, graphic artist, theater artist. He was born in Slavyansk (now Donetsk Oblast). In 1889 the Konchalovsky family moved to Moscow. In the 1890s the artistic public often gathered in their house. Regular guests included V. Serov, M. Vrubel, V. Surikov.

Later, Pyotr married Surikov's daughter, who always admired the works of his son-in-law.

Studying in high school, at the same time attended classes at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1896-1898 he studied in Paris in Academie R. Julien. In 1899 he entered the Academy of Arts (St. Petersburg), he graduated in 1907. His teachers were Savinsky, Zaleman and Kovalevsky.

  • Since 1908 he has participated in exhibitions of various art associations, such as "World of Art", "Golden Fleece", "Union of Youth", "Jack of Diamonds", "Genesis", AChRR, as well as in Paris expositions.

    He was one of the founders of "Jack of Diamonds" association and was its chairman since 1910. From 1918-1921 he taught at the Free Art Workshops. Studios, from 1926 to 1929 - in Vhutemas/Vhutein.

    In 1922 the Tretyakov Gallery hosted his first solo exhibition, with subsequent exhibitions in Moscow (1927-1930) and Paris (1925).

    His works are in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and in many other famous museum and private collections in Russia and abroad.
